The Compassionate Friends 20th annual candle lighting

Bereaved Parents, Family and Friends are invited on Sunday, December 11, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. to the 20th Worldwide Candle Lighting. The event will be held at the TCF Children’s Memorial Garden, 8201 W. Judge Perez Drive, Chalmette, LA.

We invite the community to join us in lighting a candle to honor the memory of all of our beloved children who have gone too soon. We will gather at 6:00 p.m. in the St. Bernard Council Chambers, the site of the children’s memory garden.

The main candle lighting is at 7:00 p.m.

There will be a program of musical selections and video viewing followed by the individual lighting of candles in memory of our beloved children, grandchildren and siblings. Candles will be provided. You may bring a picture or memento of your loved one.

The Compassionate Friends Worldwide Candle Lighting unites family and friends around the globe in lighting candles for one hour to honor the memories of the sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, and grandchildren who left too soon. As candles are lit at 7:00 p.m. local time, hundreds of thousands of persons commemorate and honor the memory of all children gone too soon. Now believed to be the largest mass candle lighting on the globe, the 19th annual Worldwide Candle Lighting, a gift to the bereavement community from The Compassionate Friends, creates a virtual 24-hour wave of light as it moves from time zone to time zone. TCF’s WWCL started in the United States in 1997 as a small internet observance, but has since swelled in numbers as word has spread throughout the world of the remembrance. Hundreds of formal candle lighting events are held and thousands of informal candle lightings are conducted in homes as families gather in quiet remembrance of children who have died, but will never be forgotten. Every year you are invited to post a message in the Remembrance Book which will be available, during the event, at TCF’s national website, www.compassionatefriends.org.

Again this year, The Compassionate Friends, St. Bernard Chapter will be collecting stuffed teddy bears (or any stuffed animal) in an effort to support the children of the St. Bernard Parish Community. If you are able, please bring a stuffed animal to donate to this cause.
