Joseph Gonzales recently celebrated his 90th birthday. He was surrounded by family and friends in the home he built for his family in Yscloskey over 60 years ago. Born and raised in Yscloskey, Joseph is known as the boatman. The nickname is in reference to the documentary published in 2016 by Zack Godshall. The documentary spans over 30 years highlighting the story of the oyster boat Joseph has been building. It’s a true story of endurance, love and fortitude after years of living outside the flood walls in Yscloskey, Louisiana.
