Sister Act is a musical comedy based on the hit 1992 film starring Whoopi Goldberg. The musical features original music by Tony and eight-time Oscar winner, Alan Menken. This uplifting musical was nominated for five Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

The story line is centered around disco diva, Deloris Van Cartier, who witnesses a murder by a gang and is put in protective custody in a place they are sure she wouldn’t be found-a convent. She is disguised as a nun, but soon finds herself at odds with the lifestyle and the uptight Mother Superior. Deloris however breathes new life into the church and community by inspiring the choir using her disco moves and singing talent. Sister act is filled with powerful gospel music, and speaks to the power of friendship and sisterhood.

Sister Act is the second production in The Company’s season of shows. Little Shop of Horror was the first show and the first one to be held at the Valiant Theater and Lounge. “It has an intimate set up and great atmosphere,” Ortego said. The Company will produce the musical, Hairspray in the summer.
