A New Orleans man was booked April 1 with two counts of attempted murder after he fired a shot at a Chalmette woman holding a toddler, Sheriff James Pohlmann said.

At approximately 2:30 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office received a call about a shot fired in the 3600 block of Juno Drive in Chalmette.

Devin Thornsberry, 21, allegedly approached a 24-year-old female who was holding her 2-year-old niece outside her home. A verbal altercation between the two ensued, and the suspect fired one round, missing the woman and child and hitting the front window frame of the residence.

Sheriff Pohlmann said the suspect fled the scene, but was apprehended nearby. The handgun was recovered, and no one was injured in the incident, he said.

Thornsberry was transported to St. Bernard Parish Prison to be booked accordingly. Bond has not yet been set.
