Harold “Sonny” Joseph Smith, Jr. passed away on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at the age of 84. He was the beloved wife of the late Jeannette Pomes Smith. Loving father of Harold J. Smith, III (Marilyn); Henry E. Smith (Jeanie) and Brian M. Smith (Cheryl). Son of the late Harold J. Smith Sr. and Gertrude Betz Smith. Brother of Ronald J. Smith (Rita). Proud grandfather of Henry Smith, Jr. and Andrew Smith. Step-grandfather of Charles Johnson, Sr. (Rhonda); Sheri Johnston (Gene); Shandy Arguelles (Jason); Shay De St. Germain and Shad De St. Germain (Kendi). Step-great grandfather of Charles Johnson, Jr.; Christopher Gioe; Robyn Gioe; Isabella Johnston; Reece Arguelles; Mela Arguelles and Braylon De St. Germain. He is also survived and fondly remembered by his 2 great grandchildren, along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Harold served as a New Orleans Fireman for most of his adult life and proudly served his country in the U.S Coast Guard. He will be forever remembered as a loving and loyal husband, father, grandfather, step-grandfather, step-great grandfather and brother, who loved raising his pigeons, rabbits, canaries and dogs, but treasured his family and friends above all else.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Friday, May 5, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service in Harold’s memory beginning at 11:00 a.m. He will be laid to rest with military honors in St. Bernard Catholic Cemetery.
