Nunez Community College to Graduate 304 Students at 25th Anniversary Ceremony

Graduates Will be Awarded 348 Credentials on Thursday

 Nunez Community College will hold its 2017 commencement ceremony on Thursday, May 25 at 7:30 p.m. at the Frederick J. Sigur Civic Center in Chalmette. Three-hundred and four graduates will be awarded 348 certificates, diplomas, and associate degrees.

This year’s commencement is the 25th for the College since it became Nunez Community College after the 1992 merger of the Elaine P. Nunez Technical Institute and St. Bernard Parish Community College to form a comprehensive community college, offering vocational and technical programs and arts and sciences programs.

Chancellor Thomas R. Warner will preside at the ceremony, conferring the degrees and awarding the diplomas and certificates. Mr. Norwood “Woody” Ogé, a member of the Louisiana Community and Technical College System (LCTCS) board of supervisors and retired director of business affairs for Ingalls Shipbuilding-Avondale Operations will give the commencement address. Ogé has been a member of the LCTCS board of supervisors since 2008.

Among the 2017 graduates are dual enrollment students from L.B. Landry-O.P. Walker College and Career Preparatory High School and Chalmette High School. These students completed certificates or associate degrees while still in high school and will graduate with high school diplomas and college credentials this spring.

Landry-Walker High School dual enrollment graduates with certificates of technical studies in electrical construction: Theronae Armstrong, Mya Angel’le Cooley, Bryan McMillian; with certificates in welding: Fred Gilbert, Juan Matthews, Nolan Nunnery; with associates of applied science in industrial technology: Jomyra R. Mathis and Kevin Wilson.

Chalmette High School dual enrollment student Chase Tanguis earned a technical diploma in industrial maintenance; and Bryce Ducote, John McElroy, and Kholbey Reid earned associates of applied sciences in industrial technology.

Nunez Community College is an open-enrollment comprehensive community college offering over 30 academic programs, including specialized training and continuing education courses. Registration for summer and fall 2017 semesters is open now. On-campus registration assistance for summer will be available from 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 30 and Wednesday, May 31.
