Leonard Gerard Kurtz passed away on Friday, June 9, 2017 at the age of 72. He was the beloved husband of 50 years to Claudia Dendinger Kurtz. Loving father of Debbie Schnell (Troy), Lenny Kurtz (Jen) and Elizabeth Schneider (Louis). Son of the late Louis and Ethel Philibert Kurtz. Brother of Michael Kurtz (Izzy) and Louis Kurtz. Brother-in-law of Mary Jeansonne, Elizabeth Tucker, Emma Fiorella and Urban Dendinger. Proud grandfather of Kasey Schnell, Jessie Schnell, Alex Kurtz, Anthony Kurtz, Louis Schneider, Stella Schneider and Lola Schneider. He is also survived and fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Leonard was born in New Orleans, LA and was a longtime resident of St. Bernard Parish. He proudly served his country in the U.S. National Guard. Leonard truly enjoyed life, surrounding himself with family and friends while golfing, bowling, playing baseball, strumming his guitar, encouraging us to sing along with him, or quietly singing to the love of his life, Claudia. He will always be remembered for his loyalty, laughter and dedication to his family, friends and spoiling the grandchildren. He was our pillar of courage and strength and will be deeply missed by us all.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., followed by a funeral Mass in Leonard’s memory beginning at 1:00 p.m. He will be laid to rest in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
