Doris Barnes Van Court Walter

Doris Barnes Van Court Walter passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, June 11, 2017 at the age of 88.  She was the cherished wife of 68 years to the late William “Billy” Van Court, Jr. Beloved mother of Darlene Clair, Walter “Billy” Van Court, III, Lisa Bergeron, Lance Van Court (Ann), Lori Van Court, and the late Rory Van Court. Proud grandmother of Mary Clair, Katie Herbert, Danny Clair, Sean Clair, Jennifer Hazard, Troy Bergeron, Ashley Van Court, Stacey Van Court, Lance Van Court, Jr., Blake Van Court, Amy Tully; and 18 great grandchildren. Daughter of the late Phillip and Josephine Barnes. Sister of Phillip Eugene Barnes, Shirley Barnes Zimmer and Eugene Phillip Barnes.  She is also survived and fondly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

Doris was born in New Orleans, LA and was a longtime resident of St. Bernard Parish before settling in Slidell, LA. She truly enjoyed life through her trips to the casino, horse racing and bingo. She will always be remembered for her loyalty and dedication to her family, her caring and loving spirit, her laughter, and her passion for sports. She was well loved and will be deeply missed by us all.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Thursday, June 15th from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., followed by a funeral Mass in Doris’ memory beginning at 1:00 p.m. She will be laid to rest in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
