Qualifying begins Wednesday for 2017 Statewide/Municipal Elections

Louisiana Secretary of State Tom Schedler reminds everyone that qualifying for the October Statewide/Municipal Elections begins on Wednesday, July 12 and runs through Friday, July 14.

All candidates for local municipal/legislative/district judge races will qualify with their parish clerk of court. All candidates for State Treasurer, Public Service Commission District 2 and Court of Appeals Judges will qualify at the Louisiana Secretary of State’s Office located at 8585 Archives Ave. in Baton Rouge. Hours of operation for the Secretary of State’s Office are 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. daily. Check with your local clerk of court for specific parish hours.

The media is invited to attend qualifying at the Secretary of State’s Office and will have the opportunity to interview and/or photograph candidates as they file their paperwork.

Once qualified, candidates will appear on the secretary of state’s website in real-time under “Elections & Voting,” “Get Election Information,” “Search for Candidates,” or by visiting https://voterportal.sos.la.gov/CandidateInquiry.

The fall Statewide/Municipal Election will be held on Saturday, Oct. 14 and the fall General Election (runoff) will be held on Saturday, Nov. 18. For more information on qualifying, visit the secretary of state’s website at www.sos.la.gov.
