Bernard Harold Dorcey

Bernard “Bernie” Harold Dorcey passed away on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at the age of 75, surrounded by his loved ones.  Bernie was born in New Orleans to the late Bernard Michael and Emelda Gonzales Dorcey and was a long-time resident of Chalmette, LA.

He was the loving husband of Kay Clark Dorcey; loving father of Debbie DiCarlo (David), Julie Vignes (Sidney), Denise Cazaubon (Ralph) and Danny Dorcey (Stefani); adoring grandfather of Stephanie Carreras (Danny), Christian Vignes, Brandon Cazaubon, Kaycee Vignes, Kaila Vignes, Madison Cazaubon, Veda Grace Dorcey and Demi Dorcey; loving great-grandfather to Tyler Carreras, Cooper Carreras and Kamryn McCardell; devoted brother of Judy Interanto (John) and Tommy Dorcey (Leslie) and nephew of Kay Duet (Larry).  Brother in Law of George Clark, Diane Puderer (Roy) and Johnny Clark.  Bernie is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.

One of the most important things in Bernie’s life was his love of family.  After serving in the Marines out of high school, Bernie was a long-time employee of the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers New Orleans District.  Bernie was a lifetime fan of baseball.  He was a member of the Veterans Umpires Association for many years, serving as both assigning secretary and president.  A highlight of his life was seeing the Chicago Cubs win the World Series.  Bernie truly believed dogs were man’s best friend.  He always had a dog (usually more than one) in his life, including stray dogs he just could not turn away.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral Mass at St. Bernard Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home, 701 W. Virtue St, Chalmette, LA, on Friday, July 21, 2017 at 1:00 p.m.  A visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 10:00 a.m.
