Registration open for three-part short course in Delft3D modeling from The Water Institute of the Gulf and Deltares

Ahead of the AGU 2017 Fall Meeting in New Orleans this winter, The Water Institute of the Gulf and Deltares USA are teaming up to offer a three-part short course in Delft3D modeling and delta geomorphology in New Orleans, La.

The short course includes a two-day introductory course in Delft3D, a three-day course for advanced Delft3D users, and a unique boat-based field trip to the West Bay Sediment Diversion. Participants are free to sign up for all three parts or to pick the parts that interest them the most. Once the AGU Fall Meeting begins, come meet Institute and Deltares partners at our Expert Sessions in our AGU Booth #844.

Training sessions:

Dec. 4-5 – Part 1: Two days Delft3D training – Introduction
This two-day training will get you started modeling hydromorphodynamics using the Delft3D 4.02 Suite (structured/regular grids). Delft3D 4 has been designed to simulate the complex interactions between waves, currents, sediment transport, and bathymetry over time-scales of days to decades.

Dec. 6-8 – Part 2: Three days Delft3D training – Advanced
During this advanced training you will  learn the ins and outs of the new Delft3D Flexible Mesh hydrodynamic model. The Delft3D Flexible Mesh Suite 2017 (Delft3D FM) is the successor of the structure Delft3D 4 Suite. Course topics include bathymetry interpolation, post processing, sediment transport and morphology, bed stratigraphy, and an introduction to water quality modeling (DELWAQ).

Dec. 9 – Part 3: Delta field trip
This one-day field trip will take students on a boat-based trip to the West Bay Sediment Diversion, in the Mississippi River’s birdsfoot delta. West Bay is an ideal location to observe delta sedimentary dynamics and ecology in action. The diversion was opened in 2003 with the intention of restoring vegetated wetlands to a 13,000 acre coastal marsh that had subsided into open water.

Registration for events and MyDSD account:
To sign up for the pre-conference events, you need to register yourself for a MyDSD account. Creating an account is free of charge and with no obligation to participate. Via MyDSD, it
is possible to view specific events and sign up to participate. Your MyDSD account then provides an overview of all the events for which you are registered. You will also receive
a confirmation e-mail for each registration. More information and registration details are at http://www.deltares-agu.org/2017/. To register click on “Register MyDSD” in the top right of the web page.
