Louisiana Chemical Association Supports Those Preparing for Careers in Industry
Gennard Davis, a student in the Industrial Technology (PTEC) program at Nunez Community College, has been selected as the recipient of a scholarship from the Louisiana Chemical Association (LCA). LCA offers $1,000.00 scholarships to students enrolled in PTEC programs. Scholarship recipients are selected through a competitive process that includes an application, essay, and letters of recommendation.
Davis, a resident of New Orleans, chose Nunez because he wanted to get hands-on experience, which is an integral part of the PTEC program. He plans to continue his education after finishing his associate’s degree and wants to become an engineer. Davis describes himself as a nontraditional student, having earned his high school equivalency in 2014. He would encourage other nontraditional students to consider attending community college.
“I am a 28-year-old, married, nontraditional student who sacrificed my full-time job for my aspirations to attend college. I will be the first in my immediate family to make this dream become a realty because no one else had a chance to attend college. I was told earlier in my life that I couldn’t go to college, but I looked at every hardship as a character building moment and I am determined to succeed at Nunez and in my future career,” said Davis.
Prospective students interested in the PTEC program at Nunez Community College should apply online at www.nunez.edu/admissions. Specific questions about the program can be directed to Don Hoffman, director of technology programs, at (504) 278-6305.
