Salvadore Anthony Guercia

Salvadore Anthony Guercia left this Earth on October 9, 2017 at the age of 83 to be with Our Lord and Savior. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Tana Stechmann Guercia; his daughter, Tana Guercia DeJean (Raymond); his beloved grandchildren, Dr. Jessica D. Vinterella (Carl), Rashelle D. Greenwood and Raymond J. DeJean Jr. (Amber); his great grandchildren Emma Kate DeJean and Parker Layton; his sister Fortunata G. Scandariato; and his brother Joseph Guercia (Dr. Google). He was preceded in death by his parents, Salvador and Camille Serio Guercia; and his sisters Angelina G. Labue and Anna G. Fazino. He is also survived and fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and dear friends.

Mr. Guercia proudly served his country as a decorated sergeant, squad leader and sharpshooter in the U. S. Army National Guard and as an Army reserve from 1949 to 1962. He was affectionately known to his family and friends as “Sarge” and “Tudy.”  He was an avid reader and enjoyed time spent gardening and cooking. Mr. Guercia enjoyed a long career and was retired from Woodward Wright, Southland Plumbing and Winn-Dixie. He was well loved and affectionately known for his good nature and generous heart. He will always be remembered for his loyalty and dedication to his family, the love for his country, his loving spirit, laughter, and spoiling the grandchildren. He was our wonderful pillar of courage and strength and will be deeply missed by his family and by all those whose lives he touched.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Friday, October 13, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. to noon, followed by a funeral Mass beginning at noon. He will be laid to rest in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
