2nd Annual Give Back to St. Bernard Day Brings Together Residents and Businesses for Beautification Efforts on October 27 – October 28

Local businesses and community organizations in St. Bernard Parish are preparing for the 2nd Annual Give Back to St. Bernard Day, held in conjunction with national Make a Difference Day. The initiative, led by the St. Bernard Emerging Professional Council, began as the committee’s day of community service and has since blossomed into a parish-wide effort.

Over a dozen projects will be taking place beginning on Friday, October 27 and continuing through Saturday, October 28, 2017. Across St. Bernard Parish, you will see volunteers picking up trash, planting fall gardens, trimming trees, installing new lighting, and other beautification activities.

Give Back to St. Bernard Day organizers believe the event is a fantastic opportunity for the community to enjoy the fall weather while helping improve neighborhoods, parks, and streetscapes. They are asking anyone who is invested in St. Bernard Parish, to show it some love. Whether big or small, all of the beautification efforts will contribute to enhancing St. Bernard’s tight-knit community.

Residents of St. Bernard Parish are encouraged to get involved by participating in one of the four community projects open to the public. The United Way of Southeast Louisiana and the Old Arabi Community Garden will be hosting community projects on Friday, October 27, 2017. The Gathering and Discover District C projects will take place on Saturday, October 28, 2017. More information about individual projects can be found at the website below.

Businesses are also encouraged to participate by making improvements to the businesses’ façade. Improvements include landscaping, painting, adding exterior seating, replacing old signage, etc. Any business interested in participating may contact the St. Bernard Chamber of Commerce at admin@stbernardchamber.org to be listed as a participant and receive an “Enjoy St. Bernard” sign.

The event is being heavily coordinated by several community organizations including the St. Bernard Chamber, St. Bernard Parish Government, and Chalmette Refining. St. Bernard Parish Government has scheduled a Fall Trash Bash and debris sweep for Monday, October 23 through Saturday, October 28. Local government officials hope that property owners will take the opportunity to do some fall cleaning and discard large items that wouldn’t usually be picked up curbside through routine trash collection.
