Milestone: Over twenty-five years of financial excellence for St. Bernard Parish School District

For over 25 years, the St. Bernard Parish School District has received Awards of Excellence from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) and the Association of School Business Officials (ASBO).

At a recent board meeting, David Fernandez, Chief Financial Officer of St. Bernard Parish Schools, presented the most recent financial audit which continued the long-standing tradition of excellence in financial reporting. The LaPorte CPA Firm, who conducted the audit, presented an unmodified opinion and recognized no need for audit adjustments, no findings of non-compliance, and no suggestions for changes in internal control.

School Board Members were pleased with the findings, commending Fernandez and his staff on their continued good work regarding the district’s financial affairs.

School Board Member Clifford Englande said financial integrity helps build community trust.

“The school district has handled the hundreds of millions of dollars awarded in our rebuilding efforts and special projects so well. This audit gives the community the confidence that the monies being spent are being used to maximize student achievement in the classrooms.”

Superintendent Doris Voitier also recognized the hard work and dedication of Fernandez.

“Fernandez does an exceptional job at leading our district in all of our financial efforts. This is a tremendous accomplishment for our district and his office,” Voitier said.

Voitier reflected on this achievement and said that the financial report comes at a good time as residents prepare to vote on upcoming millage renewals.
