Carol “Gigi” Mares Beatmann passed away peacefully on January 16, 2018. She was 70 years old. She was the daughter of the late Marcel Mares and Shirley Villarubia Mares. Loving mother of Connie Beatmann Chai-Chang (Raymond), J. A. “Jay” Beatmann, Jr. (Josie), and Wendy Beatmann Bertucci (Pete.) She was the devoted grandmother of Lindsay Chai-Chang, Emily Chai-Chang, Jay Beatmann, Annabel Beatmann, Peter Bertucci and Jack Bertucci. Sister of Cheryl Mares Stempel (Edward), David Mares (Beth) and Susan Mares Carrigee (Bill.) She also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews.
Carol was a 1965 graduate of The Academy of Holy Angels and was a long time employee of WWL TV and Radio, where she developed several lifelong friendships.
Lovingly referred to as “Gigi” by her grandchildren, she loved spending time with her entire family, and she thoroughly enjoyed regularly attending her grandchildren’s numerous events and sporting activities.
She will be loved and missed by all those fortunate to have known her.
A gathering of family and friends was held at St. Pius X, 6666 Spanish Fort Blvd, in New Orleans on Saturday, January 20, 2018, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., with Mass held in her honor at 11:00 a.m. Following Mass, she was laid to rest in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
