There’s a badge for that! Girl Scout summer resident camp offers sessions of fun

Girl Scout Resident Campers ready for another fun filled summer.

Summer fun is not created by getting the most followers on social media or getting the highest scores on your favorite video game, but in the outdoors, where children can make new friends, learn new skills, and explore new heights. Girl Scouts Louisiana East (GSLE) is offering girls in grades 1-12, a variety of resident camp sessions at two camps this summer allowing every camper to earn a badge.

“We have designed our resident camp sessions to fit what our campers love and for the first time ever, each camp session allows girls to earn a badge,” said Lauren Vance, Director, Equestrian, Outdoor Program and Resident Camp. “Whether its horses, STEM, photography, theater or art, we are combining their favorite hobbies with the camp activities that we love so they can build leadership skills and enjoy the beauty of nature.”

One of the most popular sessions this summer is the Trailblazers, which allows campers to participate in equestrian and aquatic activities. In this two-week session, girls will begin their adventure at Camp Marydale spending time with horses, testing themselves on the low ropes course and perfecting their archery skills. Girls will then travel to Camp Whispering Pines to have some fun in the sun enjoying rock climbing, sliding down the water slide, paddle boarding, zip lining and more. Campers will earn the Paddling and Animal Helpers Badge at the end of the session.

If your girl is interested in Trailblazers, one session will be held this summer from June 24-July 6 for all girls in grade 6 to 8. The cost for the 14-day session is $410.

Girl Scout Resident Camp runs from June 3 to August 3 at Camps Marydale in St. Francisville and Camp Whispering Pines in Independence. Two days to two-week sessions range from $100-$410. All girls, including non-Girl Scouts, are welcome. There is an additional $25 membership fee for non-Girl Scouts.

Activities vary per session and age level but may include swimming, boating, outdoor cooking, archery, high or low ropes, rock climbing, hiking, horseback riding, and more. All GSLE properties and programs are accredited by the American Camp Association.

Registrations for resident camp are being taken online at www.gsle.org/camp.  For more information, call the council office at (225) 927-8946 or visit the council’s website at www.gsle.org.
