Anna Rose Calvert Kraus

Anna Rose Calvert Kraus passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 10, 2018. She was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on August 23, 1920, to the late Rosie Schubert James and John Calvert. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert John Kraus, Sr., her son, Albert John “Johnny” Kraus, Jr., her grandson Jacob Paul Kraus, and her siblings, Margaret Mistrot, Evelyn Dornan (Huey) and Walter James, Jr. (Yvonne.) Loving mother of Sr. Barbara Kraus, SSND, Sandra Alfonso, Susan McNeil and James “Jimmy” Kraus (Sue.)

She was adored by her loving grandchildren, Raymond Alfonso, Julie Clement (Jeremy), Jason McNeil (Nicole), Christopher McNeil, Katherine “Katie” McNeil and Andrew “Andy” McNeil. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Zoya, Sele’, Rami and Maci Kraus, Alex, Dominick and Robert “Robbie” Clement and Collette “Coco” McNeil.

Anna was a well-known seamstress who worked for Godchaux’s Department store for over 25 years. She was involved in Our Lady of Prompt Succor School from its inception and was the first president of the Home and School Co-op. She was a charter member of the St. Bernard Business and Professional Women’s Club, as well as a member and float rider of the Shangri-La Carnival Organization. She loved spending time with the Jolly Jacks Social Club and was always ready to share stories about their escapades.

She loved Carnival Season, especially attending Carnival Balls. She was ready at a moment’s notice to play cards, especially if it was dealer’s choice, and she could play “Follow the Queen.” She waited anxiously every year for her invitation to The Kentucky Derby Party, hosted by her beloved cousin, Maxine.

Anna was a huge Saints fan and had the privilege of meeting Archie Manning when he was a quarterback. She was also a dinner guest of Jim and Connie Mora while he was the Saint’s coach. She attended the Saints games with her niece, Patsy, also known as the Super Fan, and lived long enough to see them win the Super Bowl.

She didn’t like losing money but enjoyed her Casino trips with friends and family. She was a fiery redhead, full of sparkle, who loved fashion and shopping at Dillard’s. She cherished her weekly hair appointments and getting her nails polished, always a bright red.

On her Saturday restaurant outings, you could bet money on her ordering fried catfish or oysters (only if they were in season) and her favorite baked sweet potato.
She will be greatly missed by the friends and family she treasured while traveling her long life’s journey.

Family and friends are invited to gather and celebrate her home-going on Saturday, April 21, 2018, at OUR LADY OF PROMPT SUCCOR CHURCH, 2320 PARIS ROAD, in Chalmette from 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM. A celebration of the Eucharist will take place at Noon. She will be laid to rest in St. Vincent de Paul Cemetery No. 3. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to the School Sisters of Notre Dame Retirement Community (Chatawa), 3167 Old Hwy. 51 South, Osyka, Mississippi, 39657.
