Lester Cureau passed away on April 21, 2018. He was 87 years old. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, June VanHoven Cureau. He was the loving father of Lester Fred Victor and Cheryl Cureau Delatte. Grandfather of Chad J. Delatte, Erica Delatte Heath, Michael Mayeux, Tanya Mayeux, and Tracy Martinez. He also had 4 great-grandchildren. He was the brother of Edward Cureau, Adeline Cureau Billiot and the late Louis Cureau and George Cureau. He was predeceased by his parents, Louis J. Cureau and Adeline Hezeau Cureau. He also leaves behind Bella and Mandy, his cherished pets, as well as a host of nieces, nephews and other friends.
Lester was a decorated Fireman, serving the New Orleans Fire Department for 20 years. He retired as Captain and acting District Chief in 1977. He then continued his career in the St. Bernard Parish Fire Department, serving as Fire Chief before a second retirement in 1991. In his free time, Lester loved hunting, fishing, and spending time in his garden.
A visitation will be held at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home, 701 W. Virtue St., in Chalmette on Thursday, April 26, 2018, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with a funeral service in Lester’s honor at 3:00 p.m. He will be laid to rest in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
