But wait, there’s more! Girl Scouts offer extended-year membership option for new Girl Scouts and volunteers

This Girl Scout and her mom are prepared and ready to challenge themselves on the high ropes course at Camp Whispering Pines.

Imagine a summer where a girl can be herself, gain confidence to lead, make new friends, and learn new outdoor skills? Can you see yourself being by her side along the way and teaching her new skills throughout the next school year?  Girl Scouts Louisiana East (GSLE) is offering new girls, grades 1-12, and adults an extended-year membership option now through July 31.

The extended-year membership recognizes new girls and adults as registered Girl Scouts for 17 months. This option encourages girls to begin their Girl Scout adventure in the summer, then transition into a troop in the fall, and also allows adults to complete their onboarding process and even begin recruiting for their new troop in the summer.

“In the past, members who joined Girl Scouts in the spring or summer paid a full membership fee, and had to renew in the fall,” said Debbie McDowell-Tate, Director of Membership. “Now, and for the first time ever, new girl and adult members can begin Girl Scouts without paying double membership fees, and participate in our Girl Scout only events beyond the summer.”

The extended-membership fee is $35 and is only offered to girls and adults who have never been Girl Scout members before. Visit www.gsle.org/join to take advantage of the offer.

Don’t forget about summer camp!

New girls are also encouraged to register for GSLE’s summer resident camp. A variety of camp sessions run from June 3 to August 3 at Camp Marydale in St. Francisville and Camp Whispering Pines in Independence. Two-day to two-week sessions range from $100-$410. For more information and register for resident camp online at www.gsle.org/camp.

Two summer camp sessions, Me and My Gal and She and Me, have just been added for girls and their mothers or female role models. This camp session provides a weekend full of outdoor activities such as trust hikes, canoeing, archery, swimming, horseback riding and more. There is also a Me and My Pal camp session for girls to enjoy camp with their fathers or male role models, who must be 21 years old or older. Activities include hiking, learning to build a campfire, ropes courses and more. The Me and My Gal camp session will be held at Camp Marydale Friday, June 15 to Sunday, June 17, She and Me camp will be held at Camp Whispering Pines Friday, July 13 to Sunday, July 15, and Me and My Pal will be held at Camp Marydale Friday, June 29 to Sunday, July 1. Each camp is $60 per person.

Favorite activities include the outdoors, health and fitness, the arts, science and technology, travel, cookie-selling, and much more.  The Girl Scout program levels are Girl Scout Daisies, grades K-1; Girl Scout Brownies, grades 2-3; Girl Scout Juniors, grades 4-5; Girl Scout Cadettes, grades 6-8; Girl Scout Seniors, grades 9-10; Girl Scouts Ambassadors, grades 11-12.
