Cruisin’ the Caribbean Dinner for Married Couples Planned by Our Lady of Lourdes Church

Eddie and Gina Bergeron of Covington will speak at the Supper and Substance dinner for married couples on June 30 at 6:00 p.m. at the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Violet, LA. “Married couples who have attended Supper and Substance say they are drawn to the opportunity to spend time with other couples in a relaxed atmosphere, while enjoying a nice dinner and hearing a Catholic married couple share inspiring stories about their faith journey,” said Lynn Dier, who is co-chair of the church’s marriage ministry team with her spouse, Keith Dier. “Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Violet re-started the outreach in 2014 and has seen increased attendance every year. This will be the first time to host the event at the recently dedicated Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Community Center at 2621 Colonial Boulevard.”

The ministry team chose a tropical cruise theme because cruises are fun and romantic. All married couples are welcome aboard for the Caribbean dinner, desserts, drinks, and music, all included for a $25 suggested donation per couple. The Reverend Bryan Howard, who is the parish pastor, will captain this virtual “Love Boat” set to sail to nowhere at 6 p.m. Passports (tickets) can be obtained by contacting Deborah Keller at 504-259-8929 before June 27th. Casual cruise attire is encouraged.

The guest speaker couple, Eddie and Gina Bergeron, will celebrate their 29th wedding anniversary this July and have been blessed with four children. They are active parishioners of St. Peter Catholic Church in Covington. They enjoy being a monthly host family for the nearby Saint Joseph Seminary College’s seminarians through the Families Inviting Seminarians Home program as part of the preparation for their future roles as priests. The family also serves in a meals assistance program for new mothers. Both husband and wife have served as coaches and are board members of the Roman Catholic Homeschool Association of Louisiana. The Bergerons will share their story about faith and marriage.

“Family is the foundation of society, and marriage is the foundation of the family. Spending time enriching your marriage is never time wasted. Please come out to the Supper and Substance dinner at Our Lady of Lourdes,” says Fr. Howard.

The largest Supper and Substance of the year is the diocesan-wide event sponsored by the Willwoods Community’s Faith and Marriage Ministry. It will be held Friday, July 28, 20,18 at Rock ‘N’ Bowl in New Orleans. “You can meet friends from throughout the Archdiocese of New Orleans that you haven’t seen in years, as well as couples from your own parish,” explained Dier. That event also includes dinner, dancing, a guest speaker couple, and bowling from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. This year’s speaker couple is Dr. Chris and Christine Baglow. Tickets are $90 per couple for the Willwoods event and can be purchased online at www.faithandmarriage.org/supper-substance or by calling 504-830-3716.
