Dereck M. Meyers, sentenced to 30 years in prison after jury trial conviction in St. Bernard

St. Bernard District Attorney, Perry Nicosia today announced that Dereck M. Meyers, a New Orleans man, has been sentenced to the maximum sentence of 30 years by Judge Jacques Sanborn after being found guilty by a jury for one count of Possession Of A Firearm Or Carrying Concealed Weapon By A Person Convicted Of Certain Felonies and one count of Attempted Obstruction of Justice.

Nicosia said, “in St. Bernard his District Attorney’s Office and the St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office have a zero tolerance for violent criminals. This result is another example of the partnership between the DA’s office and the St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office to apprehend and convict violent offenders.” Officers Cacioppo and Noriea are commended for a fine job in the handling of this arrest and investigation.

He further expressed his appreciation for the residents of St. Bernard for showing up for jury duty, which is a vital part of our criminal justice system.
