The St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office is investigating the fatal shooting of a 4-year-old Chalmette girl, Sheriff James Pohlmann said.
Shortly after 9:30 p.m. on July 5, Sheriff Pohlmann said, deputies responded to a call about a child being shot in the 500 block of Pierre Street in Chalmette.
The 4-year-old girl was transported to University Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.
A handgun believed to be used in the shooting was recovered.
Sheriff Pohlmann said the shooting appears to be accidental at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
