State of Emergency declared by Parish President Guy McInnis

Non-Essential Government Offices closed September 4th.

St. Bernard Parish President Guy McInnis has declared a State of Emergency ahead of Tropical Storm Gordon.


SCHOOL/GOVERNMENT CLOSURES 

All non-essential Government Office will be closed on Tuesday, September 4, 2018.  All schools in St. Bernard Parish will be closed.  Essential Personnel that is required to report to work will be notified by their Supervisor.  Parish Employees should check their work emails for updates. There will be no bus service today, Tuesday, September 4th.

TROPICAL STORM GORDON UPDATE

TS Gordon:

  • As of 1700 EDT yesterday the center of Gordon was located near 26.2 N, 82.6 W, moving west-northwestward at about 17 mph.
  • The center of Gordon will be moving inland over the Mississippi Valley on Wednesday.
  • Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph with higher gusts. Additional strengthening is forecast during the next 36 to 48 hours. Gordon is expected to be a hurricane when it makes landfall along the central Gulf Coast.
  • Estimated minimum central pressure is 1006 mb.
  • The forecast track remains slightly to the east of New Orleans. We remain under a Tropical Storm Warning at this time. A Hurricane Warning is currently in effect for coastal MS and AL to the east but does not cover Louisiana.
  • Heavy rain is likely. Widespread rainfall totals of 3-7” over next 3 days, with the heaviest rainfall coming Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday.  Potential for significantly higher local amounts if rain bands move over an area for extended periods.
  • The potential for Tropical Storm force winds of 60-70 mph. Could result in scattered power and communications outages in areas with above-ground lines, as well as downed trees and roadway signs.
  • Storm Surge Watch remains in effect for coastal areas from the mouth of the Mississippi eastward to Shell Beach. Storm Surge Warning has been issued from Shell Beach across the Mississippi coast. There is a possibility for a life-threatening inundation of 3-5 feet in the Warning area and 2-4 feet in the Watch area. A Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect for Lakes Pontchartrain and Maurepas, with 1-2 feet of inundation possible.
