St. Bernard Port Installs New Member To Board Of Commissioners

Larry M. Aisola Jr., left, was recently sworn in as the newest member of the St. Bernard Port, Harbor & Terminal District’s Board of Commissioners by Justice of the Peace Barbara Manuel, right, who also happens to be his aunt.

Becoming a member of the St. Bernard Port, Harbor & Terminal District’s Board of Commissioners is something Larry M. Aisola Jr. feels passionately about.

“It gives me another opportunity to help in the development of St. Bernard Parish,” said Aisola, a lifelong resident of St. Bernard who resides in Violet.

Aisola, the newest member of the board of commissioners, was installed in August and will serve a five-year term.

Aisola has served as assistant district attorney in St. Bernard Parish since 2014.  He also is the founder and managing partner of the Law Office of Larry M. Aisola, Jr., L.L.C., a litigation firm that serves the state in the area of personal injury, wrongful death, and 18-wheeler injury.

He earned a bachelor’s degree from Southern University at New Orleans and a law degree from Stetson University College of Law.

Aisola is a member of the American Bar Association and the 34th Judicial District Court Bar Association.  He also is a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association and the United States District Courts for the Eastern American Bar Association.

Drew Heaphy, St. Bernard Port’s executive director, said members of the Board of Commissioners meet on the second Tuesday of every month to vote on Port contracts, agreements and policies.  The commissioners are volunteers who do not collect a salary, he said.

Each year, Heaphy said, the Port handles millions of tons of bulk, break-bulk and general cargo transfers, to and from thousands of barges and hundreds of cargo ships from around the world.

“Having dedicated individuals like Mr. Aisola serve on the Board of Commissioners is vital to the continued success of the Port,” Heaphy said.
