Nearly 400 seniors recently partook in the longstanding Chalmette High School tradition – Ring Day. A celebration of the Class of 2019, Ring Day celebrates the contributions, achievements, and leadership of the graduating class.
The morning started with a parade down Judge Perez Highway. Dozens of cars lined the streets, each decorated with slogans of school spirit. Upon arriving at school, seniors enjoyed a light breakfast before making their way to the gym for the celebration. Families gathered to watch their seniors walk through the oversized ring, solidifying their bond with what will soon be their alma mater.
Superintendent Doris Voitier addressed the seniors and their families.
“As you begin the last few months of your high school career in preparation for what awaits you outside of these school walls, I hope this ring reminds you of the wisdom you have gained, inspires you to make choices that will shape a brighter future, and reminds you of the unity of your class and of our community,” she said.
School Board Members, Sean Warner, Joe Long, Clifford Englande, Katherine Lemoine, and Carl Gaines, Jr., presented seniors with their rings.
School Board President Clifford Englande said the day is special for students and their families.
“Our seniors have been working towards this milestone since their Freshman year,” he said. “The ring not only celebrates their accomplishments but also represents their belonging to something much bigger than themselves – the thousands of former Owls who also proudly wear their rings.”
