Bird Festival to feature birding tours and exhibits

The St. Bernard Bird Festival will be held on May 3rd and 4th and feature a demonstration by Sally Farrell of Wind in My Feathers. Mrs. Farrell will exhibit birds that she helped recover from injuries.

Some of these beautiful birds are the American Kestrel, Mississippi Kite, and several species of owls. Bird catching and banding by our trained and licensed Audubon Louisiana experts can be observed at the Festival. The magnificent neo-tropical birds that they catch always amaze people with their beauty.

Dr. Erik Johnson, Ph.D. of Audubon Louisiana, one of the foremost experts on birds in Louisiana, will make a presentation entitled: “Costal Bird Conservation in a Vanishing Landscape”.

Airboat tours to the Big Mar, which is one of the State’s largest rookeries, are being sponsored by Audubon Louisiana and St. Bernard Bird Festival. Other birding tours will be conducted by Expert Birder Glenn Ousset and also showcase exhibits by the St. Bernard Art Guild and several expert wood carvers.

The Bird Festival will be held on the grounds of the Historic St. Bernard Courthouse, located at 1201 Bayou Road, St. Bernard, Louisiana. The Festival times are Friday, May 3rd from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Saturday, May 4th from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The public is invited and there is no charge to enter the Festival area.
