Free event to offer health screenings and family fun.
St. Bernard Parish Hospital (SBPH) is pleased to announce the St. Bernard Parish Wellness Expo, which will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2019, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. This free event is open to the public and will offer health screenings, cooking demonstrations and fun activities for the entire family at 8000 West Judge Perez Drive, Chalmette, LA 70043.
To address major contributors to chronic disease and to provide safety education, SBPH will be providing the following and more:
- Body mass index (BMI)
- Blood pressure
- Skin Cancer Checks
- Blood Mobile
- Diabetes Education
- Smoking Cessation Education
- SBPSO D.A.R.E., Boater & Water Safety Tips
- Ambulance Tours
- SBFD Smoke House
“Smoking, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and obesity are among the top risk factors for heart disease – the number one cause of death in our state. With 29 Louisiana residents dying from it daily, it is imperative that we take intentional and proactive preventative steps to combat this trend,” said Ryan Truxillo, MD, primary care physician, St. Bernard Parish Hospital.
With a focus on health and wellness for all ages, the expo will feature live fitness demonstrations including yoga and Zumba, an obstacle course, petting zoo and science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) activities. Cooking demonstrations presented by Ochsner Health System will provide instruction on cooking healthy and balanced meals the whole family can enjoy. In addition to free beverage refreshments, Ms. Beasley’s, Frencheeze and Kona Snowballs food trucks will be on site with options available for purchase.

Instilling these habits early in some of our youngest community members will help to lower the number of chronic diseases we see in generations moving forward,” said Kim Keene, CEO, St. Bernard Parish Hospital.
The Ochsner Digital Medicine team will also be on site demonstrating how Innovation Ochsner’s programs put smart technology in the hands of the patients and provide medical teams with real-time data. The team will also be showcasing and facilitating registration for MyOchsner, an online tool where patients can book appointments, view records and test results, message providers and more.
