2nd Grader Cameron Burkett was chosen as the Joseph Davies Cox Inspirational Hero for the 2019-2020 school year.

Cameron brightens the days of those privileged enough to be a part of her life with her positive attitude and caring personality. This beautiful young lady pictured here started 2nd grade in a wheelchair unable to walk. She was in a horrible car accident while returning from her family’s summer vacation a few days before school started. This accident left Cameron with 2 broken bones in her right leg and a broken left heel. You can imagine the uncertainties her family faced while she was in the hospital, but in “true Cameron fashion” while she was lying in the hospital bed, she told her mom, “I can’t wait to go back to school!” That’s just what she did. Only days after this terrible accident, she was back at school maneuvering in her wheelchair. It wasn’t always easy and many days she was in pain, but she still pushed forward! Months went by as she transitioned to crutches, then her walking cast and boot, and now she proudly walks on TWO FEET.  Most adults would frustrate given these circumstances, but not Cameron. She demonstrates great strength and perseverance at such a young age. She truly is a hero with an inspirational story! We are all very proud of you, Cameron!
