St. Bernard Parish Library Continues To Serve

The St. Bernard Parish Library is continuing to serve its patrons as safely as possible through its contactless e-services, outdoor book return, and free Wi-Fi. Electronic services include access to online databases as well as e-book/e-audio platforms such as Overdrive, rbdigital, and Axis 360. E-media offerings provide the safest way for patrons to enjoy their library and is recommended for patrons with a higher risk of contracting any illness, including the coronavirus. Anyone in need of an e-library card to utilize the library’s online databases or e-media platforms can call the library at 504-279-0448 or email us via the ’Contact Us’ button on our website at www.mysbpl.org

On Monday, June 1st the library began Phase 2 of its reopening by starting curbside pick-up. Reading and viewing materials can be borrowed through the library’s call-in/pick-up service. Patrons can visit our online catalog to make their selections. Holds can be placed on items by the following methods: using the ‘Place Hold’ feature of the online catalog, calling the library with their requests, or emailing their list to curbside@mysbpl.org. Library staff will fill their request and notify the patron when it is available for pick-up. All outgoing materials can be picked up via the driveway along E. Judge Perez Dr. All items being returned to the library MUST BE PLACED in the book drop located just outside the library’s main entrance. Materials WILL NOT be accepted in person. Due to the difficulty in sanitizing library materials, they will be placed in quarantine for 72 hours prior to being checked in. Patrons needing additional assistance are asked to call the library. Adjustments to this service will be made as demand dictates.

As library staff ensures its curbside service is running smoothly and in keeping with governmental guidelines the library will add additional services. Phase 3 of the library’s staged reopening will be a continuation of curbside pick-up along with limited computer access. Social distancing requirements allow 13 adult patrons to use the public computers for 30-minute daily sessions. Patrons entering the library must adhere to the library’s admittance policy which includes wearing a protective face covering and may include temperature taking and other safety measures as dictated by CDC mandates. All visitors to the library MUST WEAR A PROTECTIVE FACE COVERING the entire time they are in the building. Anyone removing their face covering or mask will be asked to leave. Patrons are asked to visit the library individually. Groups or additional family members will not be allowed. Patrons are encouraged to provide for their own hand sanitizing needs as library supplies are limited. Library staff will sanitize computer areas/equipment, copy/print release station, phones and furniture periodically throughout the day. During this time, some services may not be available.

The 2020 Imagine Your Story Virtual Summer Reading Program started on Monday, June 1st with online programming being added throughout the expanded event which will run until August 7th. Patrons can visit the library’s website and check out the newly created summer reading webpage to access links for story times, crafts, artistic performances and more. The St. Bernard Parish Library is excited about being able to continue its popular summer activities in a manner that adheres to today’s need for social distancing and safe health practices.

The library staff appreciates the messages of support it has received and is working to stay connected to its patrons. Please check our website and Facebook pages for updates.
