Sidney Walter Lailhengue of Pearl River, Louisiana, passed away on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Oschner Jefferson Hospital. Born October 8, 1951 in New Orleans, Louisiana to Lucien Leon and Mary (McGee) Lailhengue, he lived most of his life in St. Bernard, Louisiana.
Sidney graduated from Chalmette High School in 1969. Sidney was proud to be a Golden Glove boxer at Norman’s Gym through his high school years. He served in the Air Force Reserves for several years following high school. He began SidLou Ironworks and then worked at Tenneco Oil Refinery as a carpenter.
Sidney is survived by his wife of 29 years Rayleen L. Lailhengue; son, Brian Lailhengue, daughter, Angelle Lailhengue, stepson, Rusmond Nettles (Stephanie), stepdaughter, Dainya Hubert (Darryl); sisters Claudia L. Robertson (Raymond), Mary Lailhengue-Baker (James) and Lucy Lailhengue-Calabresi (Angelo) and grandchildren, Olivia Nettles, Caden J. Ballard, Daylin Hubert and Draysen Hubert. Sidney is preceded in death by both parents and his brother, Clyde L. Lailhengue and Clyde’s wife, Willie Rae Lailhengue.
Sidney and his wife enjoyed golfing together with dear family and friends. Sidney also appreciated carpentry and in recent years built toy chests and trophy shelves for his grandchildren. During the last seven years, his favorite past-time was being with his grandson, Caden. He was proud to be Caden’s Pop and the two shared a bond that not even death can break. He loved everyone, but lived for his grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Friday, March 17, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. A memorial service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Internment will be private.
