About UNOFCU

UNOFCU, a full-service financial institution with over $25 million in assets, was chartered in 1972 to serve members of the University of New Orleans (UNO) Community and currently provides financial products and services to 5,000 member owners. Throughout its 45-year history, UNOFCU has collaborated with UNO and members of the extended community to provide low-cost financial services and financial education. As a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) certified by the United States Treasury Department, UNOFCU promotes savings and provides affordable credit and retail banking services to economically challenged communities. A nonprofit cooperative, UNOFCU is owned by its members and is insured and regulated by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), an independent agency of the United States Government.

Why St. Bernard Parish?

In 2015, UNOFCU applied to the NCUA for an expansion of its charter. Included in the expansion request was St. Bernard Parish. The Parish is designated by the CDFI Fund as an Investment Area, indicating that it is a financially underserved area. Upon receiving the expansion, planning began on what was to be the first credit union to receive permission to serve all residents of St Bernard as well people who work and attend school there. With an estimated population exceeding 45,000, St Bernard is a vibrant, growing community in which UNOFCU has established a physical presence. In addition to its office in the St Bernard Parish Government Complex, the Credit Union operates a drive-up ATM on premises and provides services to over 100 St Bernard Community members since opening in mid-December 2016.
