St. Bernard Economic Development Foundation Hosts 2020 Shop Small Week

The St. Bernard Economic Development Foundation (SBEDF or EDF), supported by the St. Bernard Chamber of Commerce, is acclaiming Shop Small Week from November 28 to December 4, 2020, to celebrate the contributions of our local business owners and inspire our local community to #ShopSmallStBernard this holiday season and beyond. As members of the American Express® Neighborhood Champion Program, the two organizations will do a huge push for our local small businesses and host a Shop Small Week kickoff at Café Aquarius as part of Small Business Saturday, which takes place on November 28 and all holiday season long. Created by American Express in 2010, Small Business Saturday celebrates the impact small businesses have on communities across the country.

On Saturday, November 28th, the St. Bernard Economic Development Foundation, with support from the St. Bernard Chamber, will host the Shop Small St. Bernard Kick-Off at Café Aquarius. Shoppers, community members, and business owners alike are invited to join the two organizations from 9 am to 11 am, grab a complimentary Shop Small bag filled with gifts and coupons, a complimentary mimosa, and purchase breakfast from Café Aquarius. St. Bernard Economic Development and St. Bernard Chamber representatives will be there to give more information about the week, what they’ll be doing to support small businesses all holiday season, and how your role as an American Express® Neighborhood Champion helps you activate our community of small business owners.

“It’s an honor for the EDF to join together with hundreds of other communities nationwide celebrating the many entrepreneurs and small business owners in our parish and country,” said Executive Director Meaghan McCormack. “In the wake of COVID-19, it’s more important to buy local now than ever before.”

This year’s celebration is the 11th annual Small Business Saturday. Since it started in 2010, consumers have reported spending an estimated $120 billion across all Small Business Saturdays combined. 1 That’s $120 billion toward helping communities thrive, spent over just ten days alone.

In order to drive shoppers to Shop Small® this November 28, the St. Bernard Economic Development Foundation and St. Bernard Chamber are participating in the American Express® Neighborhood Champion Program to spotlight small businesses and the impact they have on communities. According to the 2019 Small Business Saturday Consumer Insights Survey, 97% of consumers who shopped on Small Business Saturday agree that small businesses are essential to their community and 95% reported the day makes them want to shop or eat at small, independently-owned businesses all year long, not just during the holiday season.

The St. Bernard Economic Development Foundation and St. Bernard Chamber have been American Express® Neighborhood Champions for the past three years, hosting Shop Small Saturday and Shop Small Week kick-off events, a holiday market, and workshops to help small business owners capture their audience, improve marketing, and grow revenue.
