Nunez Community College Expands Fine Arts Course Offerings

Newly Opened Fine Arts Building Adds Performance and Studio Spaces to the Chalmette Campus

Chalmette, LA— The new Fine Arts Building at Nunez Community College is providing the College with opportunities to expand its course offerings in visual and performing arts. The new spaces include a black box theatre, music room, and art studios for painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, pottery, design, watercolor, and printmaking.

“We are broadening our studio offerings thanks to new space, which includes adding Ceramics I and Ceramics II back for the first time since 2005. We will also be adding printmaking with the addition of two beautiful presses,” said Juliette Paul Jackson, arts and humanities department chair at Nunez.

In addition to new classes, the Fine Arts Building allows for existing classes to be offered every semester and for more students to enroll in arts classes, including students who are fine arts majors and those majoring in other fields. Stephen Liberti of Slidell is a heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) student at Nunez, and is currently enrolled in Sculpture Fundamentals.

“I wanted to take an elective, and when I saw sculpture was available, I just felt it,” said Liberti. “Sculpture has really helped me with HVAC because it’s taught me to work in the physical world and make things look nice in addition to making them work correctly,” he continued.

Fine and performing arts classes can be taken by any Nunez student, and the College also offers a Louisiana Transfer Degree with a concentration in fine arts. Credits from the fine arts associate of arts program are guaranteed to transfer to public four-year colleges in Louisiana. More information about this and other Louisiana Transfer Degrees can be found at: http://nunez.edu/academics/Louisiana-Transfer-Degree
