Parade on over to the St. Bernard Parish Library on Saturday, January 21st at 10:30 a.m. to catch the best throw of Mardi Gras.  Ms. Julie Rowley, local author and educator, will be at the library for her first book signing and reading of The Little Purple Mardi Gras Bead recently released by Pelican Publishing.

Ms. Rowley is a long-time resident of St. Bernard and a beloved teacher at Our Lady of Prompt Succor.  She holds a master’s of education in early childhood curriculum and instruction from the University of New Orleans. Her stories were inspired by her daughter’s imagination—a trait that definitely runs in the family as her father, Mr. John Paquette, illustrated her tale.

John R. Paquette is a graduate of Loyola University and a retired editor. He is also a professional vocalist and a talented portrait artist and illustrator.   He lives in Mandeville, Louisiana.

Ms. Rowley along with her sister, Ms. Lisa Ray, presented a puppet show January 2016 at the St. Bernard Parish Library based on Ms. Rowley’s book.  Ms. Ray, also of Mandeville, designed and hand-crafted the puppets that were used to bring Ms. Rowley’s story to life.  In advance of the puppet show, Ms. Rowley appeared on the WWLTV’s Morning Show with Sally Ann Roberts.

Library friends are invited to celebrate with Ms. Rowley and her family as part of the library’s Saturday Morning Family Fun series.  This free event will take place at the library’s main location of 2600 Palmisano Blvd., in Chalmette.  Books will be available for sale at the event and can be signed by the author.
