St. Bernard Animal Shelter participates in the Barkus Parade

St. Bernard Parish Animal Shelter had a barking good time in the Barkus Parade that rolled Sunday in New Orleans.  Shelter dogs, shelter staff and volunteers paraded through the streets of the French Quarter to the theme Pirates of the Crescent City dressed in Mardi Gras attire. The shelter dogs were a big hit and were greeted with applause as they were announced by the hostess of the parade Angela Hill.

Parish President Guy McInnis headed up the front of the parade as the shelter pulled up the rear prancing to the disco tunes of the Dancing Amigos. A great time was had by all. Thank you to the walkers, Donna Miller, Laurie Hosli, Howard Luna, Charlotte Luna, Eva Herrle, Essie Erato, June Livaccari, Laura Cooper and Dr. Liz Friedman who proudly paraded with the little guys Nola, Missy, Daisy, Miley, Garrett, Gracie and Pee Wee.
