Edward W. Riedl, Sr.

Edward W. Riedl, Sr., age 96 years, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, March 18, 2017 while surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of 67 years to the late Alicemae Alberts Riedl.  Loving father of Karen Riedl Gaudet (James), Candace Riedl Lowe (Claude), Edward W. Riedl, Jr. (Joyce), Gregory M. Riedl (Julie).  Son of the late Louis Riedl and Mary Bersuder Riedl. Brother of Irma Moeller and Edna Fournet and the late Louis Riedl, Bill Riedl, Joseph Riedl, Albert Riedl, Ernie Riedl, May Johnson, Alma Diggs and Elsie Vamprine. Proud grandfather of Michelle Johnson (Don), Cherie Plunkett (Tim), Stephanie Grueninger (Troy), Amanda Riedl, Allyson Riedl, Brant Cacamo (Jody), Aimee Lacoume (Sam), Claude Lowe, Jr., Timothy Lowe (Christy) and David Lowe. He is also survived and fondly remembered by his 21 great grandchildren along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

Mr. Riedl was a veteran of World War II from 1942 – 1945, where he served his country as an Army Sargent in the 96th Infantry Division, 921st Field Artillery Battalion. He fought in two major invasions, the Battle of Leyte and the Battle of Okinawa.

Upon Mr. Riedl’s return from the war, he and his wife Alicemae went on to raise a family of four beautiful children and began his career with the Maloney family that spanned over 50 years.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a visitation at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME; 701 W. Virtue St. Chalmette, LA on Friday, March 24th from 12:00PM – 3:00PM, followed by a Funeral Mass in Edward’s memory beginning at 3:00PM. He will be laid to rest with his beloved wife in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
