Philip J. Schwab, Jr.

Philip J. Schwab, Jr. passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at the age of 89. Philip is survived by his loving wife of 65 years Dornice Gab Schwab; five children; David Schwab (Judy), Steven Schwab (Rita), Cynthia S. Marino (Bernard), Cheryl S. Mayer (Herb), and Patricia S. Stanley (Rick); his grandchildren: Jay, Christine, Eliza, Olivia, Jasmine, Philip, Spencer, Gabrielle, Hannah, Everett, Stephanie, Helena, Ethan, Annaliese: and three great-grandchildren. He was the son of the late Pearl Buras Schwab and Philip J. Schwab, Sr. He is also survived by his sister, Johanna S. Hurley, numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Philip was a native of New Orleans, LA, a longtime resident of St. Bernard Parish and moved to Metairie in later years. Prior to Katrina, he was an active member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church where he served as Eucharistic Minister and usher. He was also a member of the Princemen Catholic men’s club where he served as head chef of the Princemen Cooking Committee. He also lead many family activities at Prince of Peace Church such as the Summer Softball League and the Youth Kite Flying Contest. Philip was the recipient of the Order of the St. Louis Medallion for his service to Prince of Peace Catholic Church. The family would like to give special thanks to Viola, Racquel, and Monica who cared for Philip these past several months.

Philip was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family, watching football, and cooking. Philip lived a wonderful life and was greatly loved.

Relatives and friends were invited to attend a visitation held at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. A funeral Mass was held following at 11:00 a.m. He was laid to rest with military honors in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
