Cabrini High’s Runnels signs with University of Memphis

Cabrini High School senior Christie Runnels has signed with the University of Memphis to play softball for that school.

Christie Runnels of Terrytown plays third base for Cabrini and has amassed numerous honors. As a senior, she is a 2017 Academic All-State Softball Player and was selected to the 2017 LHSCA All-Star Team roster as a member of the All-Star East squad. As a junior, she was selected to 2016 Louisiana High School Athletic Association’s (LHSAA) All-State softball team.

Joining her at her signing in Alumnae Hall were her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Runnels, Jesse Barksdale, one of her former coaches from the New Orleans Voodoo Fast Pitch Softball program; Lance Chetta, Cabrini’s Head Softball Coach; Caitlyn Battistella, Assistant Softball Coach; and Todd Corwin, Assistant Softball Coach. Also on hand were Cabrini President Jack Truxillo; Kirk Maronge, Cabrini Athletic Director; and former Cabrini Softball Coach Shannon Austin’94 along with numerous classmates and friends.

Cabrini High School is a private, accredited, college preparatory Catholic school for young women grades 8-12. Selective admission, an award-winning science program, and championship-caliber athletics produce the complete woman prepared for college and life. The intimate atmosphere provides an environment of one-on-one instruction and personal attention. Cabrini is located at 1400 Moss Street in historic Faubourg St. John on scenic Bayou St. John.
