Old Arabi Neighborhood Association welcomes new board

Charlie Lesage, vice president; Alison Barrios, treasurer; Troy Barrios, board: New OANA officials took office last month and are excited to lend their time and talent to the organization.

The Old Arabi Neighborhood Association recently elected its Officers for a two-year term. Previous Vice President Barry Lemoine will serve as President and welcomes two new Officers, Charlie LeSage and Alison Barrios, who will assume the roles of Vice President and Treasurer respectively.  Linda Van Aman returns as Secretary for OANA. Other members elected to serve on the Board include Troy Barrios, Jenifer Heintz, Ray Lauga, Kelly McCartney and incumbent member, Sal Cusimano.

Lemoine was quick to credit Mike Pechon, Maegan Dobson and Katherine Lemoine for their work in bringing OANA back.

“We are really thankful for their tireless efforts over the last several years,” Lemoine said. “After being dormant for many years, OANA is really enjoying some positive momentum, but we also want to attract more members interested in promoting and preserving all of the good things going on in the area.”

OANA members are reminded that the next general meeting will be held on Thursday, July 20th at 7:00 p.m. at the Maumus Center. A video about the history of the Center will be followed by a brief outline of the Association’s future goals, reports from committee chairs, and membership and committee sign-up. All residents of Old Arabi are invited to attend.

Van Aman said there are now several committees looking for volunteers. “Each is each chaired by an Officer or Board Member,” she said.  “From neighborhood beautification projects to helping grow the membership or our events, there is something for everyone.”

OANA also wants the community to know that fall dates have been set for two of its premier events. The first Sippin’ in the Sunset is scheduled for Thursday, September 21st from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. while this year’s Sugar Festival will occur on Saturday, October 14 from noon to 7:00 p.m.  For more information about these events or for applications for interested food and art vendors, visit www.oldarabi.org.
