St. Bernard Parish Council to proclaim September as National Recovery Month

On September 5th St. Bernard Parish Council will proclaim September as National Recovery Month.  National Recovery Month is an initiative sponsored by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).  The 2017 Recovery Month theme, “Join the Voices for Recovery: Strengthen Families and Communities,” highlights the value of family and community support.

Ribbons will be placed on the oak trees along Judge Perez Dr. to kick off the month long celebration.  An event will be held to increase awareness and understanding of mental and substance abuse disorders, and promote the message that prevention works, treatment is effective, and people do recover.  The event will take place on Saturday, September 23rd from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers located at 8201 W. Judge Perez Drive in Chalmette.  For more information on National Recovery Month you can go to recoverymonth.gov.
