School Performance Scores rise for St. Bernard Parish Schools

St. Bernard Parish School District’s School Performance Scores increased for 2016-2017 school year according to the Louisiana Department of Education.

The district scored a 98.3, an increase from the prior year highlighted by Chalmette High School’s “A” rating, the third year in a row it has earned this distinction.  The district’s overall ranking was one of the better statewide.

Superintendent Doris Voitier said the success of the high school reflects the excellent education being provided in grades 9-12 as well as in all of the schools in the system.

“Our high school students would not be able to consistently perform as well as they do if it were not for the strong foundation and the exceptional academic programs at our elementary and middle schools,” she explained.

Being named an “A” high school was another accolade for the Chalmette High Owls.  In recent weeks, the school has received a bevy of academic, athletic, and artistic recognition.

For the fourth consecutive year, Chalmette High School boasts being home to a National Merit Semi-Finalist. Meghan St. Angelo is one of 16,000 students in the nation to receive this prestigious honor.

The CHS Band and auxiliary groups also excelled at the recent regional LMEA Band Competition where the group received all superior ratings.

The Owls also enjoyed success in the athletic arena. Both the football team and volleyball teams qualified for the state playoffs with the Lady Owl volleyball squad going undefeated in capturing another district title for the school.

Chalmette High School Principal Wayne Warner said it is a great time to be a Fighting Owl.

“Our students and staff have proven once again that with hard work and dedication we can accomplish extraordinary things. I want to thank our teachers for their tireless efforts in helping us ensure that our students thrive and the community for supporting our school over the last several years,” Warner said. “Because as we all know, when our schools are strong, our community is even stronger.”
