Over a thousand people attended Santa on the Bayou’s 18th Christmas Celebration, honoring the birth of Jesus Christ. Over 50 volunteers cooked hamburgers, hot dogs, popped popcorn, gave out candies, cookies, and painted the faces of hundreds of children (and adults!). This year’s event was again held at the St. Bernard Catholic Church on Bayou Road. Inside the Church hall, six Santas, six Mrs. Clauses. and twelve elves distributed a thousand great toys to the children. This St. Bernard Classic was held on Saturday, December 9th, but Santa will continue to distribute hundreds of toys to needy children in the area.
Santa thanks the dedicated, hard-working volunteers, as well as those who contributed to the celebration: Valero Energy Foundation, Crewboats, Inc. (Pat and Claire Pescay), Pellittieri Homes (Emile Pellittieri), Guillory’s Green Store (Poydras), Dollar General Stores (in St. Bernard Parish), Eslava Insurance Agency (Chris Eslava), Poydras Hardware, Patsy Romero, St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office, St. Bernard Parish Government, St. Bernard Parish School Board, and the St. Bernard Fire Department. Santa wishes all of the above a very Merry Christmas and along with all the residents of St. Bernard.
