St. Bernard Parish School District’s elementary and middle school Students of the Year winners were announced earlier this month. These ten outstanding students in the fifth and eighth grade have been recognized for their academic achievements, extracurricular involvement, and leadership. Elementary students included Robyn Hays of Arabi Elementary, Romell Maize of Chalmette Elementary, Cadence Dettwiller of Davies Elementary, Elizabeth Groby of Gauthier Elementary, Cooper McNamara of Lacoste Elementary, Kamryn Alexander of Meraux Elementary, and Denim Bell of Smith Elementary. Middle school winners included Chloe Jorns of Andrew Jackson Middle, Grace Teal of St. Bernard Middle, and Avani Miller of Trist Middle.

Superintendent Doris Voitier applauded the winners.

“These young individuals stand out among the hundreds of excellent students who attend our schools. To be nominated is such an honor but to win is something quite extraordinary. We want to thank these students for their hard work and their parents for their continued support,” she said.

Students will compete at the district level on January 9. The Chalmette High School Student of the Year will be announced later this month.
