Do you ever think that maybe the best thing to do with your hard-earned money is to bury it in the proverbial coffee can in your backyard? It seems that every time we pick up the paper or turn on the news there has been another security breach by some organization entrusted to protect our confidential information. What about the breaches that do not make the headlines? How do we protect ourselves from falling victim to identity theft? What steps do we need to take to make sure our banking accounts are secure? How can we tell which online resources we can trust? How can we better protect our financial information from scammers and identity thieves?
The St. Bernard Parish Library is Calling All Adults to get answers to many fraud-related questions by attending a free program sponsored by Hancock Whitney Bank on Saturday, February 24th at 10:30 a.m. The topic of this highly interactive program will be Protecting Your Income and Retirement: Scam Prevention. Program presenters will be Ms. Angela Avant, Investment Services, Vice President and Financial Advisor, Mr. Mario Bogran, Senior Investigator of Corporate Investigations and Mr. Travis Moore, Financial Center Manager, Vice President and Branch Manager. Together they will bring well over 30 years of banking experience to the program.
Discussion points will be checking account safety, account monitoring, scam letters, fraud alerts, and identity theft. Ms. Avant, Mr. Bogran, and Mr. Moore will share their expertise with audience members as well as give real-life examples of scamming letters, and fraudulent offers to help raise awareness of how financial scammers operate. They will also offer advice on how consumers can better protect their banking accounts and financial interests.
This free, one-hour event will take place at the library’s main branch located at 2600 Palmisano Blvd. in Chalmette. No registration is required. Refreshments will be served.
