Walter Charles Behrens

Walter Charles Behrens, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 15, 2018, at the age of 81. He was the beloved husband of 30 years to Carolyn Doseff Behrens. Loving father of Cynthia Behrens Kellum (Bobby) of FL, Walter G. Behrens (Cherlyn) of FL, John Behrens, David Behrens (Shawn). Son of Florence Flutina Behrens of NJ. Brother of Florence “Sis” Massing (Richard) of NJ, Deborah Elmstrom (Carl) of NJ, John Behrens of NJ and Robert Behrens (Barbara) of AR. He is also survived and fondly remembered by his 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 6 nieces and nephews, 11 great nieces and nephews, his stepson, Marc Hebert (Joel), granddaughter Logan Anne, and special thanks to his sister-in-law Pat Lopinto (Mike). He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Albin Behrens of NJ and his beloved daughter, Patricia Behrens Torres O’Neal.

Walter was born in Eatontown, NJ and current resident of Covington, LA. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. Following his military service, Walter continued to serve his community as a New Orleans Police Officer until retirement. He was a dedicated and loving husband, father, brother, and a friend to many. His fondness of fishing with his friends was only surpassed by his love of spoiling his grandchildren. He was our pillar of courage and strength, and a wonderful example of what it means to care for others. He will be deeply missed by all who were touched by his love, kindness, and compassion.

Relatives and friends were invited to attend a visitation held at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Monday, March 19, 2018, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by a graveside service that began at 11:00 a.m. He was laid to rest in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
