The St. Bernard Parish Home Mortgage Authority would like to make our residents aware that there are two programs that can help people looking to buy a home. The CAFA Down Payment Assistance Program and the Southern Mortgage Assistance Programs are intended to make the home buying process a little easier for potential buyers.
These two programs offer buyers a Gift that can be used to cover their down payment or it can be used to help with their closing costs. This money is “Gifted” to buyers which means it does not have to be paid back. These programs are available only for a primary residence and for single-family homes. In some parts of St. Bernard there are no income limits and you do not have to be a first-time home buyer to qualify. St. Bernard Home Mortgage Authority Chairman Howard Luna said, “The goal of the HMA is to increase the number of homeowners in St. Bernard Parish.
These programs assist people who want to buy a house that wouldn’t be able to do so otherwise.” Currently that CAFA Program is available through CrossCountry Mortgage which is located at 908 W.
