Rome seeks to fill Division D seat being vacated by the retirement of Judge Kirk Vaughn.

Today St. Bernard Parish attorney Gregory Rome qualified as a candidate in the November 6 election for District Judge, Division D, in the 34th Judicial District Court. Rome seeks to succeed retiring Judge Kirk Vaughn, alongside whom Rome worked for 11 years.

“Because of my experience as both a trial attorney and a law clerk, I know St. Bernard’s court system inside and out. I have the real-world experience and fresh insight needed to manage Division D’s busy docket efficiently and professionally and to lead our courts into the 21st century,” Rome said.

Rome is currently the managing partner of Williams & Rome, LLC, where he has successfully represented both plaintiffs and defendants in a wide variety of high-stakes lawsuits across the state and has conducted extensive transactional work involving real estate, estate planning, and business matters. Rome is a passionate advocate with unmatched legal knowledge and extensive experience before state and federal courts and agencies from St. Bernard Parish to the Louisiana Supreme Court and beyond. In his role as a law clerk for the Honorable Kirk Vaughn, Rome also spent thousands of hours in the courtroom; interacted with countless attorneys, litigants, and witnesses; and drafted hundreds of judgments and court orders.

“St. Bernard Parish needs a judge who is truly independent and not beholden to any special interests or insiders. We need a judge who is only committed to serving the citizens of our parish, and I look forward to meeting with my community members over the next few months to demonstrate why I’m the best candidate,” Rome said.

Rome became a mediator in 2015 and was admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court in 2016. He is a member of the 34th Judicial District Bar Association, the New Orleans Federalist Society, the St. Bernard Chamber, and the Louisiana State Bar Association House of Delegates.

Rome graduated first in his class in 2006 from Loyola University New Orleans with a bachelor’s degree in computer science. At Tulane Law School, Rome co-founded the Civil Law Commentaries, the first legal journal dedicated exclusively to Louisiana law and its historical roots and served on its inaugural editorial board. He is also co-author of Louisiana Civil Law Dictionary, a legal reference book that has been recognized as part of the official bibliography of West’s Louisiana Civil Code since 2013. Rome graduated with honors from Andrew Jackson Fundamental Magnet High School and attended Our Lady of Prompt Succor Elementary School.
