The Kiwanis Club of St. Bernard-Arabi is proud to announce the completion of the 10th annual Read to Ride Program. The Kiwanis Club, in partnership with the St. Bernard Parish Library’s Super Summer Reading Program, donated six bicycles to the winners of a raffle drawing. This year 659 children participated in the program, with 160 children completing the reading activities. The names of those completing the program were entered in the raffle, and the winners were allowed to choose their bikes.
Kiwanis Club Read to Ride Coordinator, Mitch Perkins, worked with the Parish Library Children’s Services Manager, Janet Perez, to make this program a success. Numerous other businesses and individuals also donated prizes to the library program.
The Kiwanis Club president, Sam Catalanotto said, “The Kiwanis Club is here to support and encourage all of the children of St. Bernard Parish through our programs. The Kiwanis Club also sponsors Read Around the World in all of our elementary schools, a Reading Incentive Program at W. Smith Elementary, a Key Club at Chalmette High, Builders Clubs in our middle schools, and K-Kids in the elementary schools. In conjunction with Chalmette Refining PBF, we also sponsor the well-known Terrific Kids and Terrific Teens programs.”
These are just a few of the many community service projects sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of St. Bernard- Arabi. Those interested in joining our service organization or sponsoring any of our programs, should call Robby Showalter at 504-616-7312, or join the club at its noon meeting every Tuesday at Rocky & Carlos.
