Hazardous Materials Disaster Awareness Training
Nunez Community College, in conjunction with Nova Southeastern University, will provide an 8 hr. Hazardous Materials Disaster Awareness Training Course on August 23 from 7:45AM-4:30PM at the AST Auditorium on Nunez’s campus. You will only need to attend one date.
This is a state recognized industrial certification and all successful participants will receive a Nova Southeastern University Certification for their employment records.

The HAZARDOUS MATERIALS AWARENESS course involved 8 HOURS of classroom instruction, case studies, and interactive tabletop scenarios emphasizing awareness of potentially hazardous materials that are handled, transported or loaded and unloaded in a maritime setting through mechanisms such as labels and markings, the Emergency Response Guidebook, or information stations. In addition, this course stresses the concept of “observe and report” in the case of an incident, with an emphasis on keeping the trainees and others a safe distance from the hazardous material.

TYLER ORTEGO is a coastal engineer and avid entrepreneur with a passion for radically changing the economics of coastal infrastructure. Mr. Ortego uses his prior experience as a water resources engineering consultant to identify opportunities, navigate the regulatory environment and get proprietary products specified into public sector contracts. Mr. Ortego has implemented engineering testing protocols required to get products approved for agency use. This journey has led to the creation of a number of techniques for using living oyster reefs to protect coastal wetlands. Most recently, Tyler has shifted his focus to creating a community-driven agricultural model of coastal restoration.
DAVID HUFF is currently the Chief Financial Officer of Nunez Community College. Prior to his current assignment here at NCC, David was a partner in a local CPA firm specializing in small business consulting and tax planning. Using his expertise in small business accounting programs such as QuickBooks, Peachtree, and Sage, David helped many small businesses improve profits while keeping taxes low. David is a lifelong resident of St Bernard Parish and has experience with commercial fishing, trapping, and charter fishing operations.

What does a mobile crane operator do?
A crane operator assists with almost all heavy construction projects around the world. They can be seen in the background of every major project from skyscrapers to a refinery and maritime work. An operator must possess a good understanding of load charts and equipment capabilities as well as an incredible command of the crane.
What is the average salary?
The average wage is $28.00-$32.00 an hour to start!!
Most jobs offer ample opportunity for overtime as well.
What type of certification is offered?
Upon successful completion of the course, all operators will test for the fixed-cab telescopic-boom crane (TSS) operator certification from the NCCCO (National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators). Operators have the opportunity to add even larger cranes to their certifications in the future.
Where can I work?
An NCCCO crane operator certification is accepted all over the US as well as many foreign territories.
